Iran Joins Hosts Russia and Brazil At 2018 FIFA World Cup: Asian team Iran have qualified for the finals of FIFA World Cup 2018 for the fifth time in their history. After Brazil, they became the second team to qualify for Football World Cup 2018 through qualifiers. On 12th June 2017, Iran secure the World Cup ticket with 2-0 win against Uzbekistan that confirmed their spot in World Cup.

Iran maintained their top spot in third round of FIFA World Cup 2018 AFC qualification round. They took seven points lead over South Korea after playing eight games. Iran won six and drew twice in third round of AFC qualification that collected them 20 points total.

After playing World Cup in 1978, 1998, 2006 and 2014, Iran will play fifth World Cup in Russia next year. The Asian team have played four World Cup, but has never gone beyond Group Stage. They’ve won only one game in World Cup that came in 1998 against United States.
